What it examines

Assesses the government’s initial response to ICAI’s review of UK aid for energy transition. ICAI identifies progress in coordination, governance and monitoring, while seeking clearer plans for mobilising private finance and noting slow implementation of some partnerships. The assessment covers early decisions and plans, including work involving BII and PIDG, rather than completed development impacts.

Why it matters

Provides independent scrutiny of how UK-backed institutions contribute to the energy transition and how government oversees that work. This is a distinct follow-up to the 2025 review. It does not establish new capital commitments or demonstrate that planned changes have delivered results.

Published on 8 October 2026. The accompanying government update was supplied in June 2026; those actions should not be read as new October decisions.
